Conspiracy Debunkers: Four Degrees of Stupidity (and one of Smartness)

Hits: 4

Conspiracy debunkers come in a wide range of intellectual abilities. From low to high:

The first level of stupidity applies to conspiracy debunkers who claim that all conspiracy theories are nonsensical, by definition. On Caesar’s assassination plot, they would comment that the 23 stabbing conspirators (there were 37 non-stabbing ones present, too) all were so fed up with Caesar, that they all, independently, decided to kill him, and just found out, at the moment of the assassination, that 22 fellow senators had decided exactly the same thing, and moreover, to act at exactly the same moment and the same place. This kind of stupidity scores highest, because the very act, historically recorded, reveals the conspirators’ intentions.

Court scene from De Palma’s The Untouchables (1987)
with Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, and Robert De Niro
Debunker: “all this fuzz about tax evasion…”

The second level of stupidity applies to conspiracy debunkers who deny that mafia’s exist, of the traditional kind, to wit, those which threaten shop owners and demand a monthly contribution for their protection. This level of stupidity is not as high as the first one, as the conspirators hide their intentions from the public, and threaten anybody who tries to do disclose them.

A Nigerian girl prostitutes on the streets of Milan
Debunker: “didn’t she apply for the visa herself?”

The third level of stupidity applies to conspiracy debunkers who deny that modern mafia’s exist, to wit, those which organize child trafficking, for their own pleasure and in order to blackmail high-profile politicians, businessmen, lawyers, judges, and so forth. This level of stupidity is not as high as the second one, because the blackmailed victims do not dare to speak out, not even anonymously.

Zapruder’s Missing Frame # 313 (which the CIA managed to
withhold from the American citizens during 12 years)
Debunker: “general censoring policy of extreme violence…”

The fourth level of stupidity applies to conspiracy debunkers who deny the existence of globally operating mafia’s. This level of stupidity is not as high as the third one, because these mafia’s do not organize their hits: they leave that to henchmen. These henchmen operate like level-3 modern mafia’s. Level-4 debunkers are of the least stupid kind. Yet nonetheless stupid.

Hey guys, your attention, please…
Today’s task is to write a conspiracy theory about 9/11
Remember our policy: 95% truth, 5% nonsense
Debunker: “who would pay for something ridiculous like this?”

Finally, there are the smart conspiracy debunkers. They know perfectly what they do, and they are on the henchmen’s payrolls: Meet Myles Power, Isaac Saul, Bertalan Mesko, popular mechanics, and Massimo Polidoro, among countless others.
